Osakis track and field hands out awards
The Osakis boys and girls track and field teams reflected back on their spring seasons by handing out team awards recently.
The three Silverstreak athletes who were named to the Will to Win award for their efforts this season were Grant Backes, Lauren Savageau and Brittney Sadlemyer.
The Most Improved recipients were Nils Hagen from the boys team and Samantha Jones from the girls team.
The Silverstreak award was given to Zach Rien on the boys team and Taylor Kraemer on the girls team.
The Most Valuable track athlete for the girls was Hannah Szech, and Jessica Bliese earned the award as a field participant. Backes was named Most Valuable for the boys track and Mitch Sunder earned the honor among field athletes.
Osakis found some success at the state meet this spring as the girls team qualified four relay teams and two individuals for the competition. Participants in the state 4x100 relay were Kraemer, Alexa Hoffarth, Tianna Stanek and Sadlemyer; the 4x200 team was Makayla Hoglin, Abby Stroup, Sadlemyer and Szech; the 4x400 group was Hoglin, Sadlemyer, Jones and Szech; and the 4x800 team was made up of Jones, Paige Gabrielson, Brooke Sorenson and Savageau.
Savageau also competed as an individual in the 1,600 meter run at state and Kayla Sorenson participated in the high jump.
The 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams each took home first place at state while the 4x100 team finished fifth. All three teams were named all-state.
The girls track and field team finished in fourth place at the state meet. The Silverstreaks also finished second at the true team state competition.
