The Osakis girls' tennis team started the season off on the right foot on Monday by winning three matches in their annual home quadrangular.
The Silverstreaks were ranked third among Class A teams in the season's first state coaches poll, and they did not disappoint with wins over 10th ranked Melrose, Morris and New York Mills.
The closest match of the day came against Melrose, when the Silverstreaks were able to squeeze a 4-3 win past the fellow state ranked team.
"We had a very close match with Melrose," said head coach Ryan Maddock. "Overall we played well. We are happy to get the first one out of the way on a positive note and move on from here."
The Silverstreaks won the match thanks to wins by the bottom half of their singles and doubles lineup. Third singles player Hannah Baker defeated her Melrose opponent 6-3, 6-2, and in fourth singles, Hannah Szech won with a third set tiebreaker 3-6, 6-1, 10-5.
The Silverstreaks second doubles team of Katie Anderson and Elyse Wiener won 6-2, 6-2, as did third doubles pair Ashley Kraemer and Morgan Silbernick 6-3, 6-1.
After getting their toughest match of the day out of the way, the Silverstreaks rolled to 7-0 wins against Morris and New York Mills in the afternoon. The entire Silverstreaks varsity won at least one match on the day. Additionally, Baker and Szech both won three matches on the day.
"One of our goals today was to get all 15 varsity girls a win on the first day out," said Maddock. "It is nice to get the season off to a positive start while realizing that we have a lot of improving to do if we are to keep being successful."
Against Morris, the Silverstreaks' singles wins came from Taylor Kraemer 6-3, 6-3, Alexa Hoffarth 6-4, 6-1, Baker 6-1, 6-1 and Szech 6-2, 6-1.
