The Osakis wrestling team made it look easy Tuesday while taking a 49-18 victory over Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in the quarterfinals of the Section 5A team tournament.

The Silverstreaks used three big wins to take an early 16-0 lead over BBE. Devyn Johnson started off the match with a tech fall at 106, followed by a pin by Trenton Coyer at 113 and a tech fall by brother Brendon Coyer at 120.

After Kaleb Voss got BBE on the board with a pin at 126, the Silverstreaks won the next five matches to seal the victory.

Lucas Towle pinned his opponent 160 pounds, and Colton Waldvogel, Ryan Engfer and Garret Sunder each picked up major decisions to help Osakis advance to the Section 5A semifinals.

“I feel like we dominated,” Trenton Coyer said. “Hopefully we can continue our intensity on to Friday.”

Head coach Joey Andreasen knew Osakis had a good chance of advancing to the section semifinals, but he was surprised at how many matches they won in the process.

“I think we won all the matches we were expected to win, and there was a couple ones we were not really sure of,” Andreasen said. “We came out on top in basically all the close matches.”

Waldvogel’s match at 132 pounds was one that Andreasen figured would be close. Seeing him take the match in a major decision was a pleasant surprise for the Silverstreaks.

“That kid (BBE’s Colby Schramel) is really tough, but Colton has probably wrestled his best down the stretch here,” Andreasen said. “He’s really wrestled well for us.”

The Silverstreaks will continue the Section 5A team tournament on Friday at Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City High School.
