Osakis sees more progress in loss to Upsala
The Osakis boys put a bit of a scare into a 22-2 Upsala team on Saturday before the Cardinals pulled away late to secure a 67-39 win.
“We executed our game plan perfectly for 26 minutes but then we ran out of steam,” Osakis head coach Matt Hoelscher said. “We had a one-point lead with 10 minutes left, but we got tired and took quick shots, had some turnovers and let a good team get on a run. The score doesn’t indicate how close the game was for the majority of the time.”
Lane Berberich had a nice night against the Cardinals with a team-high 14 points. The senior guard hit 5-of-9 shots, including two of his five threes. Hunter Scherr added nine points and Luke Wolbeck finished with six.
“Drew fearing didn’t score but he did so many things defensively that don’t show up in the stat book to keep the game close,” Hoelscher said. “Boogaard and Wolbeck played great team post defense and Hunter and Lane made [Upsala’s Christian] Pekarek work for every shot he took. We frustrated a top team in the state, and that’s something we can be proud of. It was a great measurement for our program on how much we have grown as a team throughout the year.”
Osakis fell to 6-18 overall heading into the regular-season finale against Browerville on Monday night. The Silverstreaks got the eighth seed in the 6AA North subsection. They will open up the tournament at top-seeded Sauk Centre tomorrow night, Thursday.
