Five new teachers and a new school district head bookkeeper are on staff at the Osakis Public Schools for the start of the new school year.

They are Jennifer Halvorson, second grade long term substitute; Kate Hubert, learning disabilities teacher for grades 8-12; Tera Larson, Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) and pre-school instructor; Michael Rohr, K-3 elementary music; Victoria VanWatermulen, academic assistant in reading and math interventions for K-6; and head bookkeeper Theresa Moore.

JENNIFER HALVORSON

Halvorson is a native of Stillwater who now lives in Alexandria with her husband, Eric, who is a pilot for FedEx based out of Memphis, Tennessee. The couple has three daughters: Ella, 9, Marin, 4, and Brynn, 18 months.

Halvorson will be the long-term substitute teacher in second grade for Kari Reiffenberger. Halvorson has taught off and on at the Osakis schools for the past six years.

Her special interests include gardening, cooking and sewing, "Pretty domestic," she said.

Her current sewing project is to make Halloween costumes for her three girls, the Three Musketeers, Barbie version, with swords.

"I love working here. It's a great school," she said. "It's the only district I have ever worked in." She is a 2003 graduate of St. Cloud State University with an elementary education major.

KATE HUBERT

Hubert is a native of Pryor Lake. She earned her bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse and her master's at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

She will teach learning disabilities in grades 8-12. Previously, Hubert was an EBD teacher at Voyager School in Alexandria and was the SLD teacher in Richfield.

Kate and her husband Mike Hubert live in Alexandria. They enjoy golfing and boating. She is a former soccer player.

Mike works for Mosaic of Plymouth in the area of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.

TERA LARSON

Larson is a 2005 graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead 2005 and a 1998 graduate of Jefferson High School in Alexandria. She is the new ECFE and pre-school instructor.

Previously, Larson was an elementary reading teacher in the Alexandria School District.

Larson is engaged to Ben Anderson, who works in sales in Alexandria.

She enjoys walking, reading, spending time with family, and making crafts. "Whatever jumps out at me," she said, but especially fabrics.

Larson's parents, Allen and Deb Larson, are from Osakis, as well as her grandparents, Norma and the late Orville Larson and Ivy and the late Jim Nomeland.

MICHAEL ROHR

Rohr hails from Staples and attended St. John's University where he graduated in 2008 with a major in vocal music education. He will be the new K-3 elementary music teacher in Osakis. He has previously substitute taught in the area.

"I'm a singer," said Rohr, who also plays trombone and cello.

In college, he sang in one of the St. John's University choirs, the church choir and in several one-act opera productions.

"My hobbies also seem to be music," Michael said. He is also an adult volunteer for 4-H.

In the evenings, he spends much time in theater productions, on stage and off stage.

He looks forward to teaching elementary music.

VICTORIA

VANWATERMULEN

VanWatermulen grew up in Medina and is a graduate of Wayzata High School. She graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth in elementary education.

She will be the academic assistant in reading and math intervention for grades K-6.

She has taught at Inver Grove Heights, and last year served as a para for West Central.

VanWatermulen's husband, Matt, grew up in Battle Lake. He now works for 3M.

The couple enjoys fishing and outdoor activities.

VanWatermulen looks forward to meeting new people this year.

THERESA MOORE

Moore grew up in Graceville, graduating in 1995. She attended Alexandria Technical College, graduating in 1998 with majors in finance, credit management and accounting. She is the new head bookkeeper for the Osakis School District.

After graduation, Moore worked at Consolidated Ag in Glenwood for five years and had worked at the First National Bank of Osakis the past 9 1/2 years.

Her husband, Tom, farms and does carpentry.

The couple has three children, Mason, 10; Eva, 8; and Rachel, 5.

Moore loves baseball, especially the Minnesota Twins, and likes to be outside.
