Osakis Legion baseball improves to 3-0
Osakis 10, Browerville 2 (F/6 innings)
The Osakis Legion baseball team continued its hot start to the summer with a 10-2 win over Browerville that moved the team to 3-0.
Osakis wasted no time getting started as Drew Fearing drove a triple to the right-center field gap as part of a three-run first inning. They added three more in the second inning, one in the third, two in the fourth and one more in the fifth. Jordan Frederick helped the offense with three runs after a hit, a walk and a stolen base. Fearing finished with two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Brandon Giesler reached three times on a hit and two walks to go along with two runs and an RBI, while Jarrett Weispfennig added two hits, a run and an RBI.
Fearing also got the win on the mound in 2 1/3 innings of work. He allowed just two walks and struck out three in relief of Giesler. He went the first 3 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and five walks as Browerville got to him for two runs in the fourth on two doubles and four walks. Giesler struck out three. Young players in Reid DeWenter (1B, RBI) and Zach Weir also made their Legion debuts.
"Because of all the injuries we needed some depth so we asked Reid and Zach to play Legion with us when they are not playing Babe Ruth baseball," coach Shad Schmidt said. "They are both younger guys, but we feel they can help us out and it will be good for their development as we will probably be counting on them to play varsity next season."
Osakis' next game is at home tonight, Tuesday, when Clinton comes to town for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
