Osakis Festival offers fun for all ages

The Osakis Festival is almost here.

This year’s event promises fun for all ages, including music, dancing, friendly competitions, games for children, oodles of food, a “shocking” Taser demonstration and more.

Here’s a look at the schedule:

Saturday, June 21

Osakis Muni Bean Bag Tourney at 2 p.m. at Osakis Liquor Store. Registration starts at 1 p.m., rules meeting at 1:30 p.m. It’s for two-person teams, $10 per team, 100 percent payout.

Liquor Store Street Dance, 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the Osakis Liquor Store parking lot. Music by Sam Kuusisto Band (country and rock).

Disc jockey music at Osakis VFW, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Thursday, June 26

Salad Luncheon at Pollard Community Center, starting at 11 a.m. with vendor booths, silent auction and voting for a table decoration contest. Lunch will be served at noon. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $10 (for ticket information, call 320-859-4186).

Friday, June 27

Senior Citizen Day. Events at the Pollard Community Center include: 9 a.m. – bake sale, cards; 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – home-cooked meal for $4.25 for NSI members, $6 for non-members, must call (320) 859-2325 for reservations by June 25; 1 p.m. – free bingo; 3 p.m. – snacks and beverages. All ages are welcome to all events

Summer Music Festival. Greater Minnesota Children’s Choir Festival Concert will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the OHS Auditorium (use main entrance). Admission is $2. A free picnic meal will be served by the Osakis Women’s Association following the concert.

Osakis VFW Meat Raffle at 5:30 p.m.; Chamber/Bunco from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. ($10); Dana Robinson and the Bottle Rockets will perform from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Saturday, June 28

Events at Park Osagi: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – vendors; 10 a.m. – Sand Pile Money Hunt (sponsored by First National Bank of Osakis); 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – bracelet making and face painting; noon – kids’ old-fashioned races for ages 3 to 12 and 13 and older, and egg toss; noon to 3 p.m. – dunk tank and kids tractor pedal pull for ages 4 to 11 (register at noon); 3:30 p.m. – Taser demonstration, featuring Osakis Police Chief Chad Gulbranson, Osakis First Responder Craig Dropik and VFW Commander Mike Kral.

A youth baseball tournament will begin at 9 a.m. at the LeRoy Mackove Athletic Complex for Little League Baseball players ages 9 and 10. For more information, contact Brad Zimmel at (320) 808-1509.

Sunday, June 29

Vendors will be at Park Osagi from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Grand Parade will take place at 1 p.m., followed by the Osakis Fire Department Water Fight in front of ProBuild.

Friday, July 4

Fourth of July Fireworks at the Osakis Country Club.

Saturday, July 12

Community Auction and Book Sale.

Roddin’ ‘Round the Lake Car Show.

Al Edenloff is the news and opinion page editor for the Echo Press. He was born in Alexandria and lived most of his childhood in Parkers Prairie. He graduated with honors from Moorhead State University with a degree in mass communications, print journalism.
