Osakis drops opening-round state match to Breck (w/video)

The Osakis tennis team knew it had a tough draw in the opening round of the Class A state tennis tournament, and it was just that in a 6-1 loss to top-ranked Breck.

The lone victory for Osakis was at second doubles, where Elyse Wiener and Peyton Garcia won a two-set match over  Anna Zumwinkle and Eileen Bayer 7-6(1), 6-3.

The other close match of the morning was at fourth singles, where Hannah Szech forced a second-set tiebreaker before falling 1-6, 6-7(6).

Breck cruised to wins in the rest of the morning’s matches.

Osakis is now playing in the consolation bracket of the Class A tournament. They will play at 4 p.m. again today at the Read-Sweatt Family Tennis Center against the loser of St. James and Foley.
