Operation Round Up grants make a difference
Runestone Electric Association’s (REA) Operation Round Up has distributed more than $657,000 in grants to community-minded groups and organizations throughout its service territory since its inception in 2003.
More than 65 percent of REA’s members allow their bills to be rounded up to the next dollar with the average annual donation being around $6.
The following 32 area organizations shared $14,800 in grants from Operation Round Up.
Fire Departments – First Responders: Kensington Fire and Rescue, $500; Garfield First Responders, $500; and Lowry Fire Department, $500.
Food Shelf: Long Prairie Emergency Food Pantry, $300; Hearts and Hands Pope County, $1,000; HK Area Food Shelf, $500; Outreach Food Shelf, $1,000; Grant County, $500; and Stevens County Food Shelf, $500.
Youth: Morris Area Post Prom, $200; Osakis Post Prom, $200; Kid’s Groundwater Festival, $300; Ashby Public School Post Prom, $200; Eagle Valley Post Prom, $200; West Central Area Post Prom, $200; and Northern Lights Council, BSA, $300.
Community: Caring Hands Dental Clinic, $1,000; The Salvation Army HeatShare, $1,000; The Caring and Sharing Room, $500; Spruce Hill Foundation, $250; West Central MN Community Action, $200; Hands of Hope Resource Center, $100; Grant County Historical Society, $250; Alexandria Area Uncompensated Care Plan, $1,000; Douglas County HRA, $500; Smokey Timbers Foundation, $500; Habitat for Humanity of Prairie Lakes, $500; Thorson Memorial Library, $300; American Red Cross Alexandria, $500; Knute Nelson Foundation, $500; and Pope County Humane Society, $500.
Seniors: Pope County Triad, $300.
