Norwegian Tre Lag Stevne to be held in St. Cloud
Three groups of Americans with Norwegian ancestry, Gudbrandsdalslaget, Nord Hedmark og Hedemarken Lag and Trønderlag, will come together for a Tre Lag Stevne, which translates to “three group meeting.”
The event is Wednesday, August 6 through Saturday, August 9 at Best Western Plus Kelly Inn in St. Cloud. It includes educational seminars, family history research, entertainment, cultural exploration and local touring.
The cost is $34, and it is open to the public. The theme is “Country Quilt.”
Taryn Flolid of Alexandria will give the keynote address on Thursday, August 7, entitled Homesteaders: Post Civil War Settlements in Western Minnesota.
Gary Lund, also from Alexandria, will re-enact Alexandria’s Knute Nelson. He will be in period dress and share details of Knute’s life.
Elaine Helgeson Hasleton, a former Alexandria resident, will share the steps she took to determine if her childhood home on Fifth Avenue East in Alexandria was really a hospital where her grandmother’s brother died in 1895.
Many activities are planned, including an optional St. Cloud tour, Nordic music entertainment, a banquet, a traditional Norwegian breakfast and historic object appraisal. Scandinavian vendors will be on site.
There are separate fees for the tour, banquet and breakfast. The cost of having an object appraised is $10 per item.
There will also be opportunities for Norwegian-American participants to investigate their personal heritage.
