North Country is a three-piece band specializing in classic country. It also mixes some current hits into its playlist.

Along with Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash, North Country may treat audiences to Toby Keith, Eric Church, Dierks Bentley and Zac Brown.

North Country’s founding member, Mike Brown, lives in Elk River and teaches music for Minneapolis Public Schools. Brown has played country music all of his adult life. Before re-forming his own band, Brown played in various country bands in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas.

Bass player Reid Papke is a professional who has played in many bands and, as well as North Country, currently works with guitarist/singer Lonnie Knight.

Drummer Greg Taylor has lived in Minnesota since 2001 but is a native of Billings, Montana. Taylor became a professional musician at the age of 18 and has played everything from hard country to rock and roll and blues to heavy metal.

He has played with several famous musicians and stars, such as Hickory/MGM recording artist Glenn Barber, Capitol Records artists Hank Thompson and Connie Cato, Columbia Records/Grand Ole Opry star Billy Walker, 1950s rocker Chan Romero, and more.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. In the event of inclement weather, listen to KXRA 1490 AM for cancellation information.

The Red Willow Arts Coalition is a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide the community with access to more musical experiences.

This activity is funded in part by a grant from the Lake Region Arts Council with McKnight Foundation funding.

The series sponsors are Anderson Funeral Home and Elden’s Fresh Foods. The nightly sponsor is Carlson Music Center.
