No-wake restriction on local lakes expires
Alexandria Minnesota 225 7th Ave E
P.O. Box 549

No-wake zone restritions on 10 local lakes expired July 30.

On July 1, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners authorized temporary special controls restricting watercraft wake 300 feet from shore on the following lakes: Geneva, Victoria L’Homme Dieu, Carlos, Darling, Cowdry, Brophy, Louise, Ida and Rachel. Lake Rachel is not part of the chain but the lake had significant fluctuation in water level.

Implementing temporary no wake zones was an effort to limit shoreline erosion.

The no wake zones were in effect until July 30 or until water recedes six inches below the Ordinary High Water (OHW) level.

During the August 5 county board meeting, Douglas County Land and Resource Director Dave Rush will advise commissioners of the expired restrictions and it's up to the board to determine if no-wake restrictions will be reimplemented.
