New reporter hired for Echo Press, Review
Annie Harman is the new reporter for the Echo Press and Osakis Review newspapers.
She joined the staff December 2.
Harman grew up in Detroit Lakes and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2012 where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in print journalism and history.
Harman said, “The moment I learned to read and write, I told my parents I wanted to be a writer. I never went through multiple ‘I want to be a ___ when I grow up’ phases like other kids, my mind was set on writing. I was raised that when you have a dream, you go for it.”
In high school, Harman wrote a weekly opinion column for the Detroit Lakes Tribune and in college, she was a reporter for Inside Eau Claire, a news website.
“I’m really excited to grow into myself as a journalist. It’s something I’ve wanted for so long; now that it’s here I plan to take advantage of every minute.”
Away from work, Harman enjoys reading, tweaking personal writing projects, spending time with friends and family and she’s a self-proclaimed baseball junkie.
“Overall, I just really love being around people, whether it’s for dinner, bowling, or sitting around laughing at nothing,” she said. “I’m also a huge Shakespeare nerd, I can’t get enough of him. Did you know that he is responsible for the evolution of ‘swag?’ Think of where we would be without him!”
Harman said so far, her first journalism job is everything she hoped it would be.
“I’m so happy that I went for it. I was very nervous and anxious to see if I would be able to keep my head above water, but I’m happy that I was thrown in the deep end right away, it’s the best way for me to learn. It’s also a pretty good feeling when my coworkers seem happy that I keep deciding to return.”
