New Mexican restaurant opens
Alexandria's newest family restaurant, Mi Mexico, recently opened at 401 Nokomis Street.
A grand opening will take place on Wednesday, October 28.
The restaurant is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
All entrees are prepared fresh daily in a completely remodeled kitchen, using authentic family recipes.
Each table is unique in design and was shipped from Mexico.
Beer and cocktails are also available.
Owner Juan Valencia noted that his family traces its roots to Mexico and were raised in California. One of his relatives opened his restaurant when he was 17 and other family members have followed his lead.
The restaurant's manager is Anselmo Gomez.
The restaurant serves traditional Mexican fare - tacos, enchiladas, burritos, chalupas, chimichangas, nachos, fajitas and more - along with a wide variety of specialty dishes. Here are just a few examples from the menu:
Enchiladas De Camaron: Three rolled corn tortillas stuffed with grilled shrimp that is sautéed with bell pepper, onions, mushrooms and tomatoes. Covered with Tipico cheese sauce, topped with lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream.
Steak burrito supreme: Steak and refried beans rolled up in a flour tortilla topped with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and choice of guacamole or sour cream.
Guisado de Puerco en Salsa Verde: Tasty fried pork meat prepared spicy hot, seasoned with spices and green tomatillo sauce.
Pollo Fundido - grilled breast of chicken sautéed with onions covered with cheese sauce and served with rice and salad.
