October is getting closer and that means it's time for Carlos Creek Winery's annual Applefest. This year, the winery has added something new to the festival - a catapult contest.
With Applefest slated for October 16-17, those interested in the contest have just about two and a half months to build their contraption.
The Alexandria winery will be hosting the Catapult Contest in conjunction with its annual Applefest celebration.
The first-ever Catapult Contest will feature four divisions - corporate, collegiate, amateur and high school.
Contestants in each division will design and build their own catapult or trebuchet to compete for greatest distance in each division.
Ammunition will be one-gallon jugs of water for corporate, collegiate and amateur divisions with an 800-pound counterweight limit.
Ammo for the high school division will be apples with a 50-pound counterweight.
There will be cash prizes for first, second and third place in each division, as well as a $1,000 grand champion prize for the greatest distance overall.
Teams may be assembled and anyone can enter.
Carlos Creek Winery is looking for college kids, engineers or anyone who wants to build a catapult.
Only a limited number of entries can be accommodated in each division so early registration is encouraged to assure a spot in this new and exciting event. Registration fees apply. To register for the event or to view rules and guidelines, visit www.carloscreekwinery.com or call (320) 846-5443.
