New book includes memories of Alexandria
A newly published book, Seasons of Raina, written by Milissa Nelson of Sartell, takes place around 1975 Barrett and brings readers on a few adventures in Alexandria.
Nelson will hold a book signing for Seasons of Raina on Saturday, December 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Book World in Viking Plaza, Alexandria.
As a result of bullying, Raina, a 9th grader and only child from Denver, Colorado, is withdrawn, timid and listless. Concerned, but unable to leave their jobs, her parents arrange for her to try a new living arrangement.
Raina flies to Minnesota and moves in with her aunt, uncle and eight cousins. She learns to try new things and discovers that change, while sometimes intimidating, can ultimately be for the better.
Raina visits Alexandria often, taking part in the Jingle Bells telethon, shopping at Viking Plaza and Ron’s Warehouse, checking out Big Ole and taking part in track meets.
Nelson grew up in Minnesota and Colorado, the seventh child of Elwood and Beverly Nelson. She has a degree in music education from the University of Colorado, where she played trumpet in The Golden Buffalo Marching Band.
She loves growing flowers, running 5Ks and prefers her vacation time to be spent with family. She lives in Sartell with her husband and two daughters.
