Nelson Gables honored with assisted living award
When Aging Services of Minnesota initiated its Confident Choices designation, organizers had a very specific goal in mind.
They wanted to improve the quality of housing-with-services facilities such as assisted living communities.
Aging Services believed that Confident Choices designation would help increase public trust in assisted living facilities and help consumers make informed choices on the living/housing communities they consider for themselves and for their family members.
Knute Nelson's assisted living community, Nelson Gables, was one of many facilities that were evaluated as part of this new program.
Following an extensive application process and evaluation, Nelson Gables was chosen as one of only 13 senior living communities in the state of Minnesota to receive the Confident Choices Designation and the only assisted living community that was recognized outside of the metro or St. Cloud area.
The criteria used to evaluate the facilities submitted included having a recognized code of ethics, regularly receiving feedback through tenant satisfaction surveys as well as offering staff education and training and community involvement.
Aging Services also looked at what kind of opportunities were presented to the tenants of the facility to ensure they were receiving access to educational and training resources and opportunities for socialization and recreation.
"Nelson Gables is the optimum of housing-with-services/assisted living," said Mary Youle, vice president of housing and community services at Aging Services of Minnesota. "The buildings and grounds are beautiful and well-maintained. Staff is professional, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable and has created a strong tie between Nelson Gables and the Alexandria community."
Knute Nelson officials credited the Alexandria community for the success.
"We have been privileged to have our organization founded in such an incredible community," said Mark Anderson, president and CEO. "We have some amazingly kind and giving people living in our area, and it is because of their generosity that Knute Nelson has become what it is today."
