NDSU researcher's body found in Cooperstown; murder investigation under way
COOPERSTOWN - A murder investigation is under way after the body of a North Dakota State University researcher was found today at a home in Cooperstown.
Kurt Johnson was reported missing on Tuesday after he was last seen leaving a Cooperstown bar on New Year's Eve.
Griggs County Sheriff Robert Hook said a murder investigation is under way. He said one suspect is detained.
Hook declined to comment further on the investigation. He said he expected the Griggs County assistant state's attorney would be filing formal charges in the near future.
Hook said the suspect was not from Cooperstown.
He would not say if authorities were investigating more than one suspect in the incident.
Johnson was an associate research fellow for the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute at NDSU.
