National Day of Prayer to be observed locally
In 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed Congressional legislation designating the first Thursday of May each year as the National Day of Prayer. Since then, communities across the country set aside time to gather and pray for the nation.
The local National Day of Prayer committee has been busy preparing for events to be held on Thursday, May 1.
The community is invited to begin National Day of Prayer with a breakfast at Broadway Ballroom in Alexandria beginning at 6:15 a.m. Breakfast tickets are $7.50 and can be purchased from committee members, church offices and at the door.
Everyone is also invited to join local government officials and leaders from the military, education, business, family and media for a time of prayer for the community at noon at Alexandria City Hall.
Full details of local National Day of Prayer events will be published in an Echo Press Extra on Friday, April 25.
