Musical trio to perform at Evansville Arts Center
The trio of Rachel Capistrant, Paula Odland and Gary Mattson will perform on Friday, April 4 at 7 p.m. at the Evansville Art Center. Although all three have performed at the venue previously, this is the trio’s first time performing together.
Odland lives and works in Alexandria with her husband and three young children.
She grew up singing in the car and in the shower, finally getting the courage to sing in public in her college years.
Her first unofficial gig was as a singing waitress in rural Minnesota. She has performed in musical theater, including the Alexandria Area Arts Association (AAAA) production of Annie in 2005.
More recently, she has enjoyed helping lead the praise team at First Lutheran Church and singing solo music for church services and weddings.
Capistrant enjoyed singing with the Alexandria Carolers in high school. She participated in choir at Concordia College and sang in a 150-member gospel choir at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She has served as vocal director for musicals at AAAA Theatre.
Capistrant is an Alexandria native and lives there with her husband and two young sons.
Mattson began playing in rock and roll bands in high school. Now a regular at the Evansville Arts Center, he previously performed in a folk duo in the Twin Cities area more than 30 years ago. His music includes a mixture of folk, country and gospel.
He lives in Alexandria with his wife, Bette. His two daughters and their families also live in town.
The three share a common venue of singing regularly at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria.
