Music and more at the fair
It's time for the summer event that many area residents, young and old alike, eagerly await - the Douglas County Fair!
The annual event starts today, Thursday, August 20 and runs through Sunday, August 23. As always, this year's fair features many events and activities for people of all ages.
Some of the entertainment featured at this year's Douglas County Fair includes music and entertainment by Pure Country, The Wolfpack, The Bistodeau Family, Decades Later, Tina and Lena, Dennis J. Murphy, The Next Step with Ginnie 'O,' Skilly and Duff, the Runestone Rockettes, and the Alexienne Chorus.
Some of the favorite events that will be returning to this year's fair include the demolition derby, tractor and truck pull, stock-car racing, kids' tractor pull, turtle races, kids' coin hunt, pork chop feed, K-9 demo, vintage car parade and a tractor parade.
So plan now to meet up with old friends and enjoy some great entertainment, as well as games, carnival rides and, of course, some delicious food.
Here is a look at some special events happening at the fair:
Kids' Day offers a chance for children ages 12 and younger to get reduced prices on most rides when tickets are purchased at the carnival midway ticket booth.
Kids' Day is on Friday and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. For both children and adults, buying a wristband at the carnival midway ticket booth also allows the wearer to ride most rides as many times as they want to on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 10:30 p.m.
A Lego contest for children ages 5 to 12 will be held on Sunday, August 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the old schoolhouse. Participants will be asked to create something with Legos that are furnished. Prizes will be awarded for the following age groups: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12. To compete in the contest, register at the old schoolhouse by 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Children of all ages are invited to stop by the Master Gardener table in the 4-H Building on Friday, August 21 at 1 p.m. or Saturday,
