The Mullet River Boys are musical purveyors of vintage vaudeville, jug band and ragtime folk music. Led by Emmy Award-winning songwriter Jack Norton, the boys have been called “one of the most entertaining acoustic groups in the Midwest” by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
The band features Norton on banjo, ukulele and guitar, backed by the Mullet River Boys performing on washboards, kazoos, harmonicas, washtub bass and more.
The group was named Artists of the Year by the Minneapolis Star Tribune in 2000 and nominated for a Minnesota Music Award for Best Acoustic Folk Group in 2004.
The boys perform original songs, gypsy hokum, vaudeville swing and instrumental breakdowns, as well as barbershop-style vocals sung through vintage megaphones, sight gags and comedy.
The group has been together since 1997 and has performed at venues from coffee shops to major theaters and arts centers in North America and Europe.
Tickets are available at www.thephoenixeventcenter.com, Trumm Drug in downtown Alexandria and at the door.
