According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected to develop across Western Minnesota this evening and then spread eastward across Central Minnesota overnight.
Snowfall amounts between three to six inches are expected in the advisory areas, which includes locations along and south of Alexandria to Little Falls.
Snow is expected to persist through the day on Friday and then gradually taper off in the evening. However, northwest winds are expected to become gusty, which could result in areas of blowing and drifting snow.
According to the National Weather Service, a winter weather advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Authorities advise motorists to be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibility - and to use extreme caution when traveling.
