Moorhead drops Cardinals in third place game of holiday tournament
The Alexandria girls’ basketball team held a three-point halftime lead over Moorhead Saturday, but it was unable to hold the advantage in the second half in a 44-34 loss to the Spuds.
The loss dropped the Cardinals to 0-2 in its home holiday tournament. Amanda Christianson scored eight points down the stretch in the second half, but her 11 total points was not enough to help the Cardinals pull out third place in the tournament. Brooke Heggie was second in scoring for Alexandria with eight.
After the game, Christianson said the two games are a learning opportunity for the team to get back to its winning ways. The Cardinals had won the first four games of the season before playing in the tournament.
Head coach Wendy Kohler said the Cardinals will get back to work in practice this week to play the kind of basketball it did in the first four games.
“We got off to a great start this season and we kind of got knocked off our high horse a little bit,” Kohler said. “But we’re going to get back to the practice floor on Monday and get back to work.”
