MMA coming to Broadway Ballroom
Alexandria Minnesota 225 7th Ave E
P.O. Box 549

Area fans of mixed martial arts (MMA) will have the opportunity to view fights close to home on Saturday, November 2 when Shine 1 comes to the Broadway Ballroom in Alexandria.

The event will include six amateur and four professional fights. Included in those bouts will be MMA professional and Evansville native Dan Wales, who will take on Chad Vaudrin.

The fight that promoter Dean Lamb said he is most looking forward to is the one between Randy Kittelson and Doug Jenkins. He said promoters around the state have been trying to get them to square off for a few years, and they were finally able to provide the right price for the two fighters.

“They are two of the best lightweights in probably the whole upper Midwest,” Lamb said. “They both are on the radar for bigger promotions, like the UFC and Bellator.”

Jenkins also fought in the Resurrection Fighting Alliance, another national MMA promotion. Kittelson is currently ranked seventh in his weight class in Minnesota.

Fans will also have the opportunity to receive autographs from Brock Larson, a Brainerd native who fought in the UFC from 2005 to 2009. Larson trains with some of the fighters in Shine 1, and he will be there to support them.

“He fought for the world title a couple times, and at one point, he was ranked ninth in the world,” Lamb said.

The last time an MMA event was held in Alexandria, Lamb said people in attendance were unhappy with the quality of the fighters. The skill is promised to be better this time around for Shine 1.

“People feel like they have not gotten their money’s worth,” Lamb said. “We are hoping to change that. We have some talented guys coming from some pretty legit gyms from all over the state and the Dakotas.”

The doors will open for the event at 6 p.m., with the fights beginning an hour later at 7 p.m.

The tickets will be $20 for general admission and $50 for a cage-side table seat when purchased in advance. Prices will go up $5 if purchased at the door on the night of the event.

Tickets can be purchased at Fat Daddy’s in Alexandria or online at
