The Minnewaska boys' and girls' track teams traveled to Benson last Thursday where the girls finished seventh and the boys ninth at the West Central South Conference meet.

Madi Sachs ran to the Lakers' only all-conference finish when she finished first in the 3,200-meter run. The top two finishers in each individual event earn all-conference recognition, along with the runners making up the first-place relay teams. Sachs was also a part of the 4x800-meter relay team that took second. Joining her on the team were Halle Christianson, Carena Zamora and Mariah Heieie. The group ran a season-best time of 10:06.77 in the event.

Christianson also had a big day individually with a third-place finish in the 400 with her time of 1:01.81. She then went on to claim sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:32.84.

Britta Lundblad led the Lakers in the jumps with a third-place leap of 4'8" in the high jump. She also finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles.

Meggie DeJong tied a personal best in the high jump with a leap of 4'6" to earn seventh-place honors. Lisa Pasche had three top-10 finishes, getting third in the pole vault, sixth in the 100-meter hurdles and eighth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Katelyn Gaffaney and DeJong made the finals in the throwing events. Gaffaney claimed seventh in the shot put and discus, while DeJong finished ninth in the discus.

The Laker pole vaulters led the boys team on the day. Fernie Zamora vaulted 11'0" for a fourth-place finish, while Karl Wallin finished seventh with his vault of 11'0."

Lucas Oliviera had the highest finish for Minnewaska in the sprints. He ran the 100-meter dash in 11.9 for a fifth-place finish. Gage Sachs was the top finisher in the distance events, coming in seventh in the 3,200 with a time of 10:56.51. Tyler Paulzine rounded out the Lakers point scorers with a sixth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 43.76.
