Recently, Democratic legislators have been promoting the “successes” of MNsure, the new bureaucracy created to administer Obamacare in Minnesota. Despite claims that MNsure has nearly 4,000 Minnesotans enrolled, the reality is that zero Minnesotans have been able to successfully complete enrollment in a health plan through MNsure.

As of November 13, MNsure officials confirmed they are still unable to electronically transfer application information to health plans, a critical final step of the enrollment process. Without this information, insurers are unable to issue policy documents to consumers. After spending $150 million to build it and with tens of millions more in annual operating costs, MNsure’s website lacks the basic ability for people to complete enrollment in a health plan for 2014. The site may not be fully functional until next October.

Meanwhile, healthcare costs are going to continue to go up as Democrats and bureaucrats in Minnesota implement Obamacare. The unelected board of directors for MNsure voted without opposition to charge the maximum tax on health insurance authorized by law for 2014. Revenue from this tax will be held in a special account to be used by MNsure, with few limitations, to cover operations costs in later years. As a result, Minnesotans who enroll in the individual market will see their policies taxed at a rate of 1.5 percent.

Taxpayers in Minnesota can’t afford to pay even more for the implementation of Obamacare by Governor Dayton and Democratic legislators. Even those who aren’t enrolled through MNsure are seeing costs go up. It’s been reported that as many as 1 in 20 Minnesotans will be forced to give up policies they like, with doctors of their choosing, for policies that will be more expensive and involve services they do not want.

Governor Dayton and Democrats’ chaotic implementation of Obamacare in Minnesota has resulted in higher costs, fewer choices and serious privacy concerns for consumers. President Obama’s politically-motivated “fix” to his broken promise that people could keep their insurance may be too little, too late for Minnesotans who are losing their plans. The last thing hardworking Minnesotans need is more hassles, uncertainty and confusion created by Democrats.
