Minnesota Deer Hunter Association requests wolf sightings

The recent delisting of wolves from the Endangered Species Act and the return of the wolf to state management spawned the question: "To what degree have wolves expanded within Minnesota?"

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) proposed a wolf population survey that will run from fall 2012 through early spring 2013.

Minnesota Deer Hunter Association (MDHA) members have expressed great interest in the expansion of wolves throughout Minnesota. A "Report Zone B Wolf sightings" web survey page was created to encourage MDHA members and nonmembers to report their documented wolf sightings across the 70 percent of Minnesota that is considered Zone "B" or non-wolf range.

To participate in MDHA's Zone "B" wolf sighting survey, MDHA recommends that a digital trail camera set out with bait or scent attractant be used. A camera or camera phone will work as well.

To report a sighting or view wolf submission photos, visit www.mndeerhunters.com under the "Report Your MN Wolf Sighting" link.
