Miltona, Carlos advance to Region 14C baseball tournament
Miltona scored 12 runs as they ran past Urbank in Resorters baseball playoff action Friday night, earning a spot in the Region 14C playoffs.
The Tigers fell to the Carlos Cougars 11-0 in the championship game, which also decided the pairings for the 14C tournament. The top two teams in each league advanced to playoffs.
Leadoff hitter Ryan Emter opened the game for Miltona lining a double down the left field line, the scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Shawn Krueger.
Teammate Dalton Leuschke added a second run in that opening inning as he scored on an RBI single by Mark Whiting.
Miltona continued to pound the ball for 13 hits and a total of 12 runs on the night.
Chris Vogeler and Tyler Walsh both had RBI doubles in the game.
Krueger picked up the victory, striking out five Bombers in seven and a third innings on the mound.
The defense also did its job behind Krueger as Emter gunned down a runner at the plate to end one Bomber rally, and Leuschke and Walsh combined to save another run.
The Bombers made a final run at the Tigers in the bottom of the ninth as reliever Ryan Peppersack loaded the bases, but struck out the final Urbank batter on three pitches to cap the win.
Miltona now takes on Hi-10 league champion Bertha on Friday night at 8 p.m. in New York Mills.
Carlos, the Resorters East champion, faces off against the Perham Pirates, runners up in the Hi-10 league. That game is at 8 p.m. in Carlos.
