MGA Norther Senior Golf Tour has openings
What began 14 years ago as a one-section tour for golfers 55 years of age and older has now become a four-section tour with more than 760 golfers competing.
And, although each section is limited to 225 players, the Minnesota Golf Association (MGA) Senior Tour's Northern Section still has room to grow.
The second season kicks off May 17 at Northland Country Club in Duluth, a Donald Ross-designed course, then makes stops at Headwaters Golf Club, Minnesota National, Cuyuna Country Club, Pebble Lake, Whitetail Run, Wapicada, Blueberry Pines, Ridgewood and Thumper Pond. Deadline for entry at Northland Country Club us Monday, April 26.
The MGA spiced things up a bit with two-day events at Cragun's Legacy Courses, Detroit Lakes and Perham, then throws in a three-day event that includes Deacon's Lodge, Crosswoods and Golden Eagle.
The idea behind the two- and three-day stops is that golfers will have a chance to go back and play another round if day one didn't go as well as hoped, and the three-day events will have a different format each day.
Membership registration is open. The Senior Tour membership fee is $55 and players can apply online with a credit card or mail in an application with payment. Once are entered, they can pick and choose which events they want to play, whether it's all of them or just a few.
Along with event prizes, players accumulate performance points throughout the season for strong finishes in events. After the last individual event is held, overall performance points are determined with the top performers from each section qualifying for the Senior Tour Finals.
Each individual play event has its own entry deadline. If an individual event overfills, a random draw is held.
