Members sought for new local chapter of Toastmasters
Local professionals are seeking 20 or more people from the Alexandria and surrounding areas to start a chapter of Toastmasters in Alexandria.
A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. It meets once a week for an hour.
There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another's presentations.
Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedure.
Members learn communication skills by working a series of 10 self-paced speaking assignments designed to instill a basic foundation in public speaking.
Dues are generally $36 every six months, but individual club dues may vary.
If interested in joining, call Sheila at (320) 808-6233.
