State Representative Jay McNamar, DFL-Elbow Lake, received unanimous endorsement to run for a second term as District 12A State Representative at the 12th District DFL convention held April 13 at the Minnewaska House near Glenwood.
District 12A covers several counties, including parts of Douglas County – the townships of Lund, Millerville, Evansville, Brandon, Urness, Moe, Solem and Holmes City.
Pope County Commissioner Gordy Wagner received unanimous DFL endorsement to run for State Representative in District 12B at the Senate District 12 convention.
The convention was attended by delegates from Douglas, Grant, Wilkin, Traverse, Big Stone, Stevens, Pope and Stearns counties.
McNamar has co-sponsored or supported legislation to raise the minimum wage, protect students from bullying in schools, pay equity for women and increased funding for schools and nursing homes.
McNamar is a retired teacher and also served one term as mayor of Elbow Lake prior to his election as state representative.
Wagner is in his second term on the Pope County Board of Commissioners. He has also served on the Glenwood City Commission and has been a small businessman for 30 years.
A decorated Vietnam veteran, Wagner serves as the VFW commander in Glenwood and has been instrumental in providing help for veterans and their families for many years.
