Maynard Narveson, 91
Maynard Stanley Narveson, 91, Alexandria, died February 5, 2009 at Douglas County Hospital after a brief illness.
Maynard was born October 14, 1917 in Lanesboro to Martin and Sarah (Severude) Narveson. He grew up in southern Minnesota, attending school as a youth, and on November 17, 1937 was united in marriage to Jewett Winjum. Maynard then entered the United States Navy during World War II and upon completion of his duty moved back to southern Minnesota where he was employed as a police officer and in the construction business.
In 1962 the family moved to the Alexandria area where they purchased the Shady Lane Resort on Lake Carlos. They owned and operated the resort for many years and were blessed with a wonderful retirement in the Alexandria area. Maynard was a very caring person who loved to tease those around and had a great interest in hunting and fishing. Both Jewett and Maynard became residents of Bethany Community in 2005.
Maynard is survived by his wife, Jewett of Alexandria; sons, Darrel (Joyce) of LeSueur and Terry (Rachel) of Alexandria; daughter, Carol Thistlewood of Spring Lake Park; five grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Maynard was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Margie; son, Robert Dean; and his two brothers.
A funeral service was held February 9 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Rev. John Peshek, officiating. Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria with military honors provided by Alexandria American Legion #87. Music was provided by Marcie Vickerman and Randy Morken. Those serving as pallbearers were Wayne Erickson, Kevin Powers, Roger Saathoff, Tom Navratil, Lane Kalina and Bob Bugher. Honorary pallbearers were Frank Swenson, Floyd Eastlund, Bud Erickson, Roger Reese and Glen Sorenson.
