Marjorie Belgum, 93

Marjorie Babe Doll Belgum was born in Holmes City on September 2, 1917 to Joseph and Ingaborg (Loding) Verkennis.

Marjorie met Herbert as a young teenager and after a short romantic courtship, they married on November 25, 1937. They moved to the family farm south of Kensington, which was homesteaded to Hendrick Belgum from 1836-1883, then to Torben Belgum from 1875-1940, then to Herbert Belgum in 1916. After they sold the farm in 1974, they retired to Alexandria, where they lived for 26 years. They moved to Brainerd in 2000 and resided at the Good Samaritan Village for eight years. After Herberts death in 2002, Marjorie moved to the Good Samaritan Society Elmwood House in October 2008.

Most of her joy during her retirement years came from simple things such as short outings, going to the Dairy Queen for ice cream, playing the penny slots machines, talking on the telephone to her children, and spending time with her immediate family.

Marjorie passed away peacefully at the age of 93 at the Elmwood House in Brainerd on September 11, 2013, joining her husband of 67 years who preceded her in death.

She is survived by children, Kathleen Urdahl of Rosemount, Patricia Reese of Tucson, AZ, Paul Belgum of Brainerd, Glen (Marilu) of Brainerd, and Deborah Sorensen of Bloomington; nine grandchildren, Randy Urdahl of Mountain View, CA, Tony (Jill) Urdahl of Eden Prairie, Kara (Mark) Hayft of Apple Valley, Cal (Michelle) Reese of Denver, CO; Tracy (Steven) Reese-Bishop of Phoenix, AZ, Sarah (Dave) Browen of Osakis, Kate (Arik) Axness of Brainerd, Elizabeth Belgum of Brainerd, and Nicholas Belgum of Brainerd; and four great-grandchildren, Daniel and Naomi Hayft (Kara and Mark), Torben and Emy Urdahl (Tony and Jill).

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ingaborg; and her husband, Herbert.

A funeral service was held Saturday, September 14 at Nora Lutheran Church in rural Kensington with the Rev. Kathryn Rothman officiating. Music was provided by soloist, Dan Belgum and organist, Synthia Revering. Speakers were Paul Belgum and Randy Urdahl. Interment was at Nora Lutheran Church Cemetery.
