Marit Aaseng will share experiences as international peace scholar

Marit Aaseng, a 2010 graduate of Jefferson High School in Alexandria, spent seven weeks this summer studying at the University of Oslo, Norway, as an International Peace Scholar. She is the daughter of Grant and Ruth Aaseng of Alexandria and a senior at St. Olaf College in Northfield

She will share her experiences at a special Coffee Hour Forum on Sunday, August 11 at 9:45 a.m. in the Community Room of Shalom Lutheran Church, Alexandria.

The Alexandria community is invited to come and hear how "talking over a cup of coffee can be the first step to a peaceful world."

Aaseng was one of 15 Americans chosen to participate in a program that draws students from 60 nations to learn about issues relating to peace in conjunction with the famous Nobel Peace Center in Oslo.

While there, Aaseng spent her time as a peace scholar and studied the history and application of peacemaking at the University of Oslo's International Summer School

"For being a small country, Norway has made a huge international impact on issues of peace and reconciliation," Aaseng said.
