Marching band kicks off season
The Alexandria Jefferson High School Marching Band will kick off its season by marching in the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25 in downtown Alexandria.
This summer, the band will perform music from the musical Hair. Selections included in the 2009 show will include Hair (The Main Theme), Aquarius and Let the Sunshine In. The band will also perform Purple Haze as the non-judged portion of its performances.
The band will represent the city of Alexandria in the following Minnesota parades this summer: Albertville on June 14, Red Wing and Zumbrota on June 20, Hutchinson on June 21, Northeast Minneapolis on June 23, St. Cloud on June 27, and Alexandria's Vikingland Band Festival on June 28. This summer marks the 25th anniversary of the Vikingland Band Festival.
On July 2, the band will depart to Colorado to march in two parades - the Greeley Stampede Parade on July 4, and the Estes Park Parade on July 7. The Greeley Stampede Parade will be broadcast live on the local Denver NBC affiliate KUSA Channel 9.
