At the Tri-State Manufacturers' Association (TSMA) annual meeting in Glenwood, TSMA President Elroy Vesta announced the names of five individuals selected to receive educational scholarships from TSMA.

Awards of $1,000 each were distributed to the five following individuals for spring semester 2013:

--Melany Arceneau, student at North Dakota State University in Fargo for mechanical engineering. Her father, Joel Arceneau, is employed by TSMA member Douglas Finishing, Alexandria.

--Samuel Buck, student at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks for mechanical engineering. His mother, Laurie Buck, is employed by TSMA member Otter Tail Power Company, Fergus Falls.

--Josh Hedstrom, student at Alexandria Technical and Community College in Alexandria for mechatronics. His father, Bob Hedstrom, is employed by TSMA member company Douglas Machine, Alexandria.

--Sarah Reed, employee at the TSMA member company Douglas Scientific, Alexandria. Reed is attending Alexandria Technical and Community College for mechatronics.

--Benjamin Whalen, student at North Dakota State University for mechanical engineering. His father, Mark Whalen, is employed by TSMA member Douglas Scientific, Alexandria.

TSMA began funding a scholarship program in 2004. People employed by a TSMA-member company, as well as the children of said employees, are eligible to apply.

The selection committee scored applicants on five criteria: scholastic achievement, essay, application effort, recommendation letter and field of study - relevance to manufacturing. The next scholarship application deadline will be in November.

TSMA is a membership organization serving manufacturers and related industries in west central Minnesota and eastern North Dakota and South Dakota.
