Man injured by metal shrapnel
Saturday afternoon, a man suffered a significant leg injury when he was reportedly hit with metal shrapnel.
Douglas County Sheriff's deputies and North Ambulance responded to a medical at a home on Firemen's Lodge Road, west of Alexandria, at 2:19 p.m.
When they arrived, they found a 52-year-old man who had suffered "a significant wound" to his lower leg. The man was taken to Douglas County Hospital.
Deputies learned that people at the house had filled a metal container with Tannerite and secured the container with a metal lid. After shooting the container, it reportedly exploded shooting metal shrapnel back at them. That's when the 52-year-old man was hit with the piece of shrapnel.
Tannerite is reportedly the brand name of a binary explosive used for making exploding targets for firearms practice.
The incident is under investigation.
