Maid-Rite Diner looks to Alexandria for expansion

Maid-Rite Diner, famous for its fresh ground beef, loose-meat sandwiches, has targeted Alexandria as a priority city for its 2009 Franchise Growth Plan.

It wants to open one of its franchisee-owned restaurants here.

"In our opinion, a Maid-Rite Diner franchise restaurant in Alexandria would be very successful because of the city's population of approximately 11,481 residents, along with being conveniently located just off of Interstate 94, plus in being the regional shopping hub for the surrounding communities and home to major employers such as Douglas County Hospital, the Alexandria public schools and Douglas Machine," said Bradley Burt, president and CEO of Maid-Rite.

Maid-Rite is one of the oldest franchise restaurant chains in the U.S.

Maid-Rite has franchise restaurants located in 10 states, including Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Wisconsin and Texas. It presently has 80 franchise restaurants in operation.

According to Burt, the standard start-up package for a Maid-Rite Diner can be as low as $250,000 for a 1,500 square foot floor plan, which includes equipment and furniture leasehold improvements, working capital and the franchise fee.
