MACV to hold 2014 Fergus Falls StandDown
Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV), a nonprofit organization serving veterans statewide, along with the Otter Tail County Veteran Service office, will be holding the first Fergus Falls Veterans’ StandDown. All veterans seeking services are welcome.
The StandDown will be held Thursday, April 24 at the Fergus Falls Armory, 421 Cecil Avenue.
Doors will be open for entry and registration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a Welcoming Ceremony held at 11:30 a.m.
The local Veterans Council is sponsoring a bus to the Fergus Falls StandDown. Reservations may be made by calling (320) 762-3883.
Onsite assistance available includes free lunch, clothing, VA benefit information, legal assistance, including a court component, housing and employment assistance and referrals, chemical dependency recovery groups, DMV, haircuts, chaplaincy, public benefits information, and more.
Issues being addressed by the judges at StandDown Court are misdemeanors, petty misdemeanors, tickets and non-felony warrant-surrenders, with any higher-level crimes being referred to therapeutic courts. There is no pre-registration necessary. There will be volunteer defense attorneys to assist veterans with the process. For more information on StandDown Court, call Paul Pedersen at (218) 722-8763.
Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been assisting veterans for more than 22 years, helping more than 6,600 veterans and their families.
The mission of MACV is to provide assistance throughout Minnesota to positively motivate veterans and their families who are homeless or experiencing other life crises. It is estimated that 1 percent of the veterans in this state, or close to 4,100, will experience an episode of homelessness this year. MACV is there to assist.
