Local students receive Artist Mentor Grants
Lake Region Arts Council (LRAC) recently presented four local high school students, among several others from around the region, with Artist Mentor Grants for the summer of 2014.
The five-member jury panel interviewed each student applicant and assessed their creativity, skill and commitment. Students sang, played musical instruments, performed, read poetry, danced, submitted artwork and completed assignments to qualify for the mentorship.
Local recipients include Krista Fearing, Alexandria, Minneapolis College of Art and Design media workshop; Hannah Rising, Osakis, literature, fiction; Shelby Sowers, Parkers Prairie, visual, drawing; and Daniel Roers, Alexandria, performing arts, theater.
Each student will receive a $600 study grant this summer with a professional artist or attend artistic workshops. The award is funded through LRAC by an appropriation from the state of Minnesota.
