Local job seekers complete training to become at-home call center agents
Eighteen job seekers from Alexandria and other northern Minnesota towns completed three weeks of paid training to become at-home call center agents in September through Doherty Staffing Solutions, a Minnesota-based employment agency.
Doherty is recruiting, hiring and training at least 125 customer service representatives this fall to handle inbound calls for Doherty’s client, Bluestem Brands, Inc.
Bluestem is the owner of the nationwide Fingerhut and Gettington.com brands and has contracted with Doherty to find individuals in Alexandria and surrounding communities who can provide off-site phone and computer support to customers from their homes.
Doherty’s Customer Contact Solutions division serves the call center industry in metropolitan and greater Minnesota with staffing, recruiting, and placement. This class of graduates is the first work-from-home group Doherty has trained in Northern Minnesota.
“Our first graduating class did a great job,” said director Eric Berg. “They are now qualified to meet the requirements of an at-home call center representative and they’re ready to start their new jobs. They applied themselves to the training and are as committed as we are to making a success of the work-from-home model.”
In addition to paid training, new call center agents are supplied with a computer and other necessary office equipment to do their jobs. As a condition of employment with Doherty, they must have a quiet workspace available to them, as well as Internet and phone access.
