Literacy volunteer training scheduled
The Alexandria Literacy Project (ALP) is sponsoring a volunteer orientation session for new or prospective volunteers on Tuesday, January 25 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. It will be held at the Adult Basic Education location in the Alexandria Technical and Community College Interior Design Center, 1204 Highway 27 West.
ALP tutors work with individual adult students on basic literacy (reading, math, writing, etc.), tutor students whose first language is not English and work in classrooms with a variety of adult learners.
During the volunteer orientation, participants will learn about ALP's goals, services and volunteer opportunities.
Attendance at a volunteer orientation session is a prerequisite to attending the basic literacy tutor-training workshop. This two-part tutor-training workshop wil be held at the same location from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays, February 8 and 15.
