Lillian Anhalt, 87
Lillian V. Anhalt, 87, died February 17, 2009 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria.
Lillian was born March 26, 1921 in Crosby, North Dakota, to Edwin and Dora (Gorder) Thompson. Lillian was baptized in Crosby and attended country schools there, graduating from Crosby High School.
She met Elmer Anhalt at the Lake Metigoshe Bible Camp and they were married in 1944. They farmed near Westby, Montana for a number of years before Elmer decided to go to Augsburg College and later the Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Paul.
The couple served parishes in Minnewaukan, North Dakota from 1953-1957, Buxton, North Dakota from 1958-1965, and Hendrum, Minnesota from 1965 until their retirement in 1983. They retired to their lake home on east Lake Carlos in Alexandria and have been residents of the community since.
Lillian is remembered for always smiling, enjoying being hospitable and entertaining. She also had a fondness for playing games and serving her church, neighbors and family in any capacity.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer of Alexandria; children, Dennis (wife, Kerry) Anhalt of Alexandria, David (wife, Tricia) Anhalt of St. Cloud, and Darlene Gunkel of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Arika Johnson, Alivia Wamboldt, Leia Syvertson, Matthew Anhalt, Nathan Gunkel and Kevin Gunkel; and great-grandchildren, Makenzie Gunkel, Annika Syvertson, Isaac and Hunter Infanger; sister, Adeline (husband, Frank) Schell of Crosby, North Dakota.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 21 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Rev. Don Reising and the Rev. James Oakland officiating. Music was provided by organist Mark Graf and vocalists Jonathan and Carol Ydstie. Interment was at Carlos Prairie Cemetery with Nathan Gunkel, Kevin Gunkel, Matthew Anhalt, Cheryl Seyfert, Randy Melle and Roger Kaeding serving as pallbearers.
