Letter - We provide example for the world
To the editor:
Governor Dayton is to be applauded for signing the bill allowing gay marriage in the state of Minnesota. This fundamental right has been denied for many years.
The gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community has proven to be as law abiding, productive and responsible citizens as the heterosexual citizenry.
In addition, there are economic benefits in the form of licenses and weddings. The state would make more money.
The ultimate goal should be the passing of such laws throughout the country, so everyone's rights are protected (heterosexual and homosexual). In other words, we would provide an example for the rest of the world.
Just as the process of enslavement did not occur overnight, so also the process of regaining freedom will not occur overnight. But we will be a better country for it.
