Letter - Obamacare works, if Republicans will allow it
To the editor:
The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) works. My own health insurance cost has declined $20 a month. A director of the Elbow Lake Hospital told me that the Grant County Hospital will save $1.5 million a year because previously uninsured patients will have coverage. Health care costs are declining for the first time in years. The goal of better health care at a reduced cost for Americans can be achieved. Anyone needing information about obtaining health insurance, getting cheaper rates or better coverage, should go to obamacare.com and then to healthcare.com.
Republicans are afraid that Obamacare will work and because of that fear are engaged in a disinformation campaign to discredit Obamacare; using false information and scare tactics. If the Republicans really believe that Obamacare will fail, the smart political response would be to let it be implemented and blame the Democrats for a bad program.
A recent article stated that if Obamacare becomes effective before 2016, the Republicans will not have any hope of winning the presidency and will lose control of Congress. By providing poor health care to their workers, the billionaire buddies of the Republican Party can increase their already huge profits.
The anti-health care campaign is a copy of the Republican effort to kill the Country of Origin Food Labeling (COOL) law. American consumers want to know where their food is being produced. Farmers want to be able to label food as American-grown. Surveys showed that over 90 percent of Americans were in favor of COOL. After COOL became law, the Republicans resorted to court challenges and congressional delays and have been able to prevent implementation, to a great extent, disregarding the will of the American people and congressional law. Sound familiar? We must prevent that from happening to Obamacare.
