University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardeners of Douglas County invite the public to their annual “Let’s Get Growing” workshop on Saturday, March 29 at 8:45 a.m. at the Alexandria Technical and Community College, Office and Information Technology Center.
Registration is from 8 to 8:30 a.m., with opportunities to visit with vendors and enjoy refreshments. Numerous door prizes will be awarded.
This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Mark Seeley, who joined the faculty of the University of Minnesota Department of Soil, Water and Climate in 1978.
Since that time, he has served as Extension climatologist and meteorologist, working closely with the National Weather Service, the Minnesota State Climatology Office and various state agencies, as well as regional Extension offices around the state.
He has served as a weekly commentator on Minnesota Public Radio’s Morning Edition news program and has written a weekly newsletter, Minnesota WeatherTalk, since 1992. He is also a frequent guest on Minnesota Public Television’s “Almanac” program.
Seeley has edited numerous children’s books on weather and climate, and he is the author of Minnesota Weather Almanac published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press, which was nominated for a Minnesota Book Award in 2006.
Seeley loves to share stories and lessons from Minnesota’s weather history and discuss the management and preservation of Minnesota’s natural resources in the context of a changing climate.
In addition to the keynote speaker, participants can customize their day by choosing four breakout sessions to attend.
Early-bird registration is $30 if received by Wednesday, March 19. Day-of-event cost is $35. Registration includes refreshments, lunch and sessions.
