Alexandria's Maggie Leland, who will be a high school senior at Jefferson High School in Alexandria this fall, won her second Women's Division with a 5-3 win over Allison Thimjon of Plymouth on Saturday at the Alexandria Golf Club during the Resorters Golf Tournament championship.

Leland won her first title in 2007.

"I hit my driver well," she said after her 5-3 win. "My short game was not very good and my front nine was not too good, but I played well on the back."

Leland said the key to her match was going 1-up on No. 9, which started her on a roll where she won the next two holes.

How does this win compare to her victory two years ago?

"It hasn't really sunk in yet," she said. "It's fun - this is one of my favorite tournaments."

She is no stranger to success on the golf course, having been the Central Lakes Conference medalist the past two years for the Cardinals and has been among the top four golfers in the conference since 2006.

She has also been a participant in the State Class AAA girls' golf tournament for three years, most recently finishing 10th overall. Her highest finish was in 2007, when she came in eighth, leading her team to a state runner-up trophy.

Leland hasn't decided yet where she will be attending college. She said she plans to golf for a Division II college team.

To get to the finals, Leland had to defeat Caitlin Cummings of Chaska 8-7, Belinda Wink of Alexandria 6-5 and Molly Knutson of Edina 2-up.

Thimjon downed Andrea Dwyer of Elk River 7-5, Barbara Burton of Scottsdale, Arizona 4-3 and defending champion Betsy Aldrich of St. Louis Park 1-up.
