Legion baseball: District 7 tournament opens
The Fat Daddy's Alexandria American Legion baseball team will turn its attention to the District 7 tournament today, Wednesday, after wrapping up the regular season this past weekend.
Alexandria Post 87, Willmar and Marshall all went 2-1 in league play this summer, but Alexandria earned the No. 1 seed by virtue of a tiebreaker. Post 87 allowed the least amount of runs and scored the most among those three teams. Marshall is the second seed. Willmar is the third and Litchfield rounds out the four-team district field after going 0-3 during the regular season in league play.
Alexandria will open up the tournament Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Litchfield.
A win would move Post 87 on to face the winner of Marshall versus Willmar on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, with a game two immediately after that if necessary.
The winner will earn a berth in the Legion state tournament in Chaska the following weekend. District 7 games will be played at Optimist Park in Litchfield.
