Legion baseball: Brandon-Evansville still unbeaten

The Brandon-Evansville Legion baseball team moved to 5-0 on the summer after a 4-3 win over Wheaton last week.

Brandon-Evansville walked off with a win on a perfectly executed suicide squeeze in the bottom of the seventh inning during a 3-3 game. Craig Campbell led off with a bunt single and then stole second. Blake Ohren bunted him over to third before James Huisman put down the suicide squeeze to drive him in with the winning run.

That made a winner out of Tom Bosek on the mound. He worked the seventh and gave up an unearned run that tied the game before the offense got it back in the bottom of the inning. Ohren struck out two and tossed two scoreless innings through the fifth and sixth innings. Brandon Christianson started and went the first four frames. He allowed two earned runs and struck out three.

"Even though we don't have as many games as we'd like to have, I'm really happy with how the boys are playing," head coach Trent Hintermeister said. "I'm looking forward to the rest of the season."

Brandon-Evansville opened up a stretch last night, Thursday, where it plays six games in five days. Included in that is a weekend tournament in Osakis that starts tonight with a 4 p.m. game against Osakis. Brandon-Evansville will then play Long Prairie at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and the Alexandria VFW II team at noon.
